K, So I took the Jeep to the drag strip. Yup. I promised David280z I would before I took a job. It's not ready for the strip (and never built/designed for it), but as you guys have proved, you can drag race a 3600pound GT car and still be slow.I just finished up the pseudo mini-4-link rear yesterday, and ReSeated the rear axle today (PITA!!). Talked to David280Z who was already at the drag strip racing his turbo convertible sunbird. So I decided to head over. Enough babble-talk, Since I am the owner, I took it for two runs. (oh this is an 1/8 mile track in Denton Texas). - 1st run; The Jeep tends to hesitate badly when moving from a dead stop. So it did. David said that everyone was laughing. So be it. So I work through the hesitation and nail it. boom. Thing hooked pretty good, drove through second gear and eased out before hitting 3rd... it was kinda a shake down run. I think I rolled a 10:5 or so at 65/66 mph. Everyone that WAS laughing were now saying 'holy SHIT' - 2nd run; Before getting to the staging lanes, 3 guys came walking up fast (stopped to get slips) and were like 'WTF have you got in that thing!' So, feeling cocky, I decide to brake stand on the line with RPMs up (1Krpm is max due to the 800(?)stall converter. It helps, as I am able to scratch second gear. And roll a dead flat 10:00 at 68.4 mph - 3rd run; David drove doing the brake stand on the line. Dunno what else he did, but he got a 9.86(?) ish at 69mph. The thing sounded GREAT as it went roaring by. Better then I ever imagined. David concured 'sounds awesome once your moving' - 4th run; none - 5th run; none - 6th run; none - 7th run; nah, drag racing is gay, so we went home. the jeep was pretty smooth over all. controllable. *almost* predictable... *almost*. It twitches pretty bad during shifts tho (torque steer)... but the crowd was impressed that it turned good times once we got it rolling. Got a few compliments on the motor install. Oh, all this is on 4 year old 31" all-terrain tires and a BAD pcm program. yadda yadda. and drag racing is still gay. I did it for David mostly. He helped build the thing for zero money and after his normal work days. just out of the kindness of his heart (and wanting to build a stage BADASS jeep). Have a nice morning.
